Decentralization Action For Child And Women (DACAW)

MDO has been working with the partnership Programme under Decentralization Action for Child and Women (DACAW) with UNICEF, Nepal Since 1996. Social mobilization has been seen as important tool towards community empowerment and poverty reduction. In the beginning, MDO has already started the social mobilization work in Bhadaure Tamagi and Dhikurpokhari. There were so many saving and credit groups in the settlement level. Through the group DACAW is also running in the community as an integrated programme. UNICEF is focusing for child and women improvement result. It is mainly focusing on improvement of overall child development and health and sanitation and other results. Impact of the programme in the community is effective because of the situation of child and woman is improving. MDO has success to integrate the programme through VDC level COs according to UNICEF decentralization policy. The CBOs are running the programme smoothly now. And these days they are mobilize the fund properly in their cooperative members.

School Sanitation and Hygiene Education Project (SSHEP)

 The provision of proper toilet and safe drinking water facilities in schools is very important. UNICEF has started to support for awareness programme on sanitation and partial support for the construction of toilet with urinal, separate for boys and girls and install the safe drinking water facilities since 1997 as a school sanitation and hygiene programme. MDO has been actively working with UNICEF partnership programme for the same purpose since 2000 in 55 schools of the following six VDCs. The SSHE programme has been effective and efficient.

 The overall goal of this project is to improve the health and sanitation situation and reduce incidence of diseases caused by unsafe drinking-water supplies and poor hygiene and sanitation practices.

Objectives

  • To create the good environment of school compound and improve the health status of students which in turn help them their physical, mental and environmental health.
  • To ensure the sanitation facilities through installation of toilets separate for girls and boys with urinal and drinking water facility in the schools.
  • To aware the schools children’s carry behavioral changes on sanitation and promote the sanitation situation to their household level to community.
